Purple Patch was started in Chennai in 2017, to meet the training needs of the burgeoning wellness industry, in response to the lack of appropriately trained and certified spa, salon, beauty therapists, including hairdressers, to fill the ever-growing demand for their services.

Purple Patch offers standard Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in spa &massage therapies, hair cutting and styling, and beauty treatments. The courses cater to newcomers and also to the experienced working professionals who require certification. All our courses follow international-level curriculum and training practices, so our students are not only trained for placement on cruise lines through OneSpaWorld, but also for the best spa and salon brands operating in India.

Purple Patch’s certification is issued by Bharat Sevak Samaj, a Government of India initiative for skills development, and is internationally recognised. It is currently in the process of being registered as a training provider with the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC)

Since we started the courses in 2017, we have already placed over 80 students on board various cruise ships sailing to destinations around the world.

Job placement support onshore:

We provide current listings for your area of interest on a regular basis, mostly at five star properties or professional day spas. Employers recognize the skill advantages of graduates who have trained with us.

Our students have been place in independent branded salons and in five star properties such as Radisson Blu, GRT Grande, ITC Grand Chola, O2 Spa, Chennai Domestic and International Airports and Mumbai Domestic and International Airports.

Advanced Diploma in Hair Styling

Required Qualification: 10th pass
Age limit: 18-35
Duration: 06 Months

HAIR STYLING

Our Advanced Diploma in hair styling starts with understanding the distinctive anatomy and physiology of hair elements, and structure of the head and scalp. Working with facial bone anatomy, partings (sections), different angles of elevation and various methods of cuts helps to do a complete makeover while doing the haircuts. The faculty are trained to teach the color wheel which explains the fundamental rules of colors, so that we can create and neutralize the colors by mixing various combinations. We also train our stylists in advanced hair straightening and keratin treatment service by instilling a deeper knowledge of technology and procedure

We give focus to product knowledge to understand the ingredients and properties of commonly used hair products, including usage of chemicals and how to suggest post care products and treatments. Learning to use equipment in a professional way, handling hair in a safe way while using blow dry and other heat styling services, learning to upsell products and building client confidence and relationships is all part of the course.

Each student gets a basic tool kit for themselves. Practicals are executed on dummies as well as on live models for perfecting the techniques.

SPA THERAPY

As an Institute built on the foundation of understanding energy, we focus on going beyond the techniques of massage into a deeper understanding of learning to read what your client's body is communicating. This is known as consciousness oriented touch and it makes all the difference in the quality of your sessions. It helps to understand the difference and clients / guest can feel the difference.

The faculty are trained to identify the chakras (energy centres) in the body and how to work on each chakra in a specialized manner. They also emphasize the massage treatment for each area, to equate with the physical and spiritual well-being, leading to the healing of specific areas of the body. The advantage of incorporating energy concepts into a massage session is profound as the body's relaxation response makes it easier to go deeper in a more harmonious way.

You can choose between the deep tissue, therapeutic-oriented program or the advanced holistic program that includes beauty therapy. The curriculums are carefully constructed and taught to gain the maximum expertise in the shortest time in not just the hands-on spa therapies but also communications and customer service skills

MANAGEMENT & FACULTY

Capt. Amarjeet Vidyarthi, Managing Director

Capt. Vidyarthi is a Master Mariner with over 55 years’ experience spanning both ships as well as shore operations and has spent the major part of his professional career in the recruitment and management of shipboard personnel. Over 35 years ago, he pioneered the recruitment of Indian hotel staff for the international cruise industry. He set up the present organization in 1996 specializing in recruitment for the hospitality industry both in India and abroad (including cruise lines) and in 1998, also set up the Indus Institute, India’s first specialized culinary training institution in advanced continental cuisine.

Indrani Vidyarthi, Director

Mrs. Vidyarthi has a career spanning over 45 years in hotels (in both operations and marketing functions), travel & tourism, and market research. She oversees the administration, marketing and corporate communications for the company.

S.T Vinodkumar, Principal

Chef Vinodkumar, Principal of the Indus Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts and Purple Patch Spa and Salon Institute, has 24 years of experience in academics, hotel & catering operations, event management and professional hotel consultancy. He is a Post Graduate in Hotel Management from Annamalai University and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from Alagappa University. He is a certified Lead Auditor of Internationally Certified Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and an active member of South India Chefs Association (SICA), Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA), and World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS).

With a rich experience across food operations, consultancy and training, he has previously worked on Carnival Cruise Lines as Asst. Food Operations Manager, and in various positions with brands like the Taj Savoy, The Carlton Kodaikanal, Uncle Sam’s Kitchen, Canan School of Catering & Hotel Management, Asan Memorial College, Niraj College of Hotel Management, and also as a Consultant with Four Quarters Hospitality Solutions, Chennai.

Sangeetha Dinesh, Admin Manager & Instructor

A graduate from Canan School of Catering and Hotel Management, Ms. Sangeetha has over 18 years of experience in the hospitality industry and academia. She is a certified trainer for housekeeping and front office by the American Hotel and Lodging Association. She has previously worked as a facilities management professional at Hotel Residency and Sterling Infotech and has been a lecturer and placement coordinator with Canan School of Catering and Hotel Management.

Ruthi Lalmuanawmi, Assistant Manager - North East

Ms. Ruthi has completed her craftsmanship course in Food Production and Patisserie from IHM Guwahati in 2011 and has over 7 years of experience in the hotel industry. She has worked with brands like Hotel Ramada Ahmedabad, Hotel Novotel International Conventional Centre Hyderabad and Hotel Park Plaza Ahmedabad in the guest service department. Her last employment was with Big Daddy Casino, Goa in VIP Services Department as Senior Concierge.

Pushpa Mani, Trainer – Hair styling

Ms. Pushpa holds a Diploma in Hairstyling from Twinkle Institute (Chennai) recognized by Government of India. She brings over 12 years of industry experience from many big brands such as Lakme and Naturals Lounge. She has won accolades in events such as TIGI Backstage Heroes, Luna Events (Singapore) and Lakme Fashion Week, and was responsible for hair and make up of the national winner of the Miss India Contest in 2017. She has considerable experience with brands like Schwarzkopf, Loreal, Kerastase, TIGI and Cysteine treatment products.
